School Assemblies are held once a week on Monday mornings commencing at 9:00 a.m. in the Covered Play Area.  Assembly is held on Tuesday morning following pupil-free days or public holidays.

School Levy

The Parents and Citizens Association have a Voluntary School Levy of $40 per child per year or $80 per family per year.  
Funds raised are for the provision of:

*      new reading books for Years 1, 2 and 3

*      computer hardware (IBM machines throughout  the upper school)

*      computer software

*      more sporting equipment

School Planning

There are three main planning documents:

School Reports/Interviews

An interim report and teacher/parent interview is provided at the end of Terms 1 and 3.

A written report is issued to all classes at the end of each semester. A parent and teacher interview is offered to all parents at the end of Semester 1 and all parents are encouraged to avail themselves of this opportunity to discuss their child's progress.

Parents and teachers may also request an interview at other times during the school year if necessary. Our teachers welcome parent visits before or after school as these help develop a positive rapport which support student learning.

Prep students will receive reports, part of which will be a student digital portfolio.

School Sport

All children are encouraged to participate in sport and develop skills.  A Physical Education Specialist is at school and all children receive up to one hour of instruction each week.

Specialist Teachers

Our school has a range of specialist teachers available.  Some are based at the school, others visit weekly on a circuit, and others visit the school regularly as needs dictate.

v      Music, Health and Physical Education, Learning Support and Library teachers are appointed to a set allocation determined from our school enrolment.

v      We have a Learning Support Teacher who is involved in appraisements of children with learning difficulty with their literacy or numeracy.  This teacher is also our Reading Recovery Teacher who implements the Reading Recovery Program with children in Year 2.  A major part of our Learning Support and Intervention Programs is purposely designed for children in Years 1 – 3.  We believe that it is vital to identify children with problems as early as possible and support them intensively to address the problem.

v      Our Learning Support Teacher also assists teachers develop learning programs to support gifted and talented students.

v      The school has a H.P.E. Health and Physical Education Teacher based at the school who services a group of schools.  All classes receive H.P.E. lessons each week, Yr 1-3, one hour, Yr 4-7 half hour.

v      The school also has access to a Music Specialist who is based at the school and services a group of schools.  All classes receive Music lessons each week, Yr 1-3, one hour, Yr 4-7 half hour.

v      We also have access to a range of other specialist teachers to address children with special needs, such as physical impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual impairment, speech/language impairment, or specific learning difficulties.

v      A Guidance Officer visits our school 3 days per fortnight.

Sports House Teams

Upon enrolment students are allocated to one of two house teams.

 Two highlights on the Athletics Calendar are the Tolga Inter-house Sports, between Tinaroo and Tandara, and the Atherton District Sports - both scheduled for Term 3 in July/August.  Students showing talent will be encouraged to develop their skills at District, Regional, and State level.

 Student Dress Code

Our school community expects that all students should wear suitable, clean clothing whilst at school.  This will allow them to fully and safely participate in the range of educational activities they encounter.

Clothing is suitable for school if it fits all the following categories:

All students should wear a sunsafe hat and suitable enclosed footwear.  Our school uniform meets all the standards required of suitable clothing and so is the recommended level of dress to be worn.

Sun Smart

A Sunsmart Policy is adopted to protect all members of our school community from the damaging UV rays of the sun.

Swimming

It is school policy that all students in Years 1 to 4 receive swimming instruction as part of our Health and Physical Education Program.  Lessons are taken by Austswim tutors in conjunction with the Health and Physical Education Specialist.  Modest swimming togs are required.  A one-piece suit for girls is required.  A bathing cap is recommended for all children with long hair - boys and girls.  Swimming lessons are conducted in November for eight to ten days straight in the Atherton Pool.  Cost is approximately $30.00 per child, to cover bus fares, pool admission, and qualified Austswim Instructors.
