Mission Statement

Tolga State School will provide a caring, stimulating, and academically productive environment in which every child can achieve to his/her fullest potential. There will be a special emphasis on self-esteem and individual worth. This will empower our young people to lead productive and fulfilling lives in our society.

Values

At Tolga State School behaviour by all members of the school community is based on:

          # Respect - being respectful is an attitude of honouring people and caring about their rights. It is reflected in the courtesy with which we treat each other, the way we speak and the manner in which we treat each other’s belongings.

        # Responsibility - being responsible means others can depend on you. It means to do something well and to the best of your ability.

         # Self-discipline - self-discipline is self-control. It means choosing to do what you feel is right.  When you have self-discipline you take control of your own behaviour.

         # Courtesy - courtesy is being polite and having good manners. It is being considerate of others’ feelings, thoughts and opinions.

Philosophy

We believe that in our school the following set of conditions exist and that we accept these and work with these facts in mind:

#People choose their behaviour.  Every person can behave acceptably in school but
some people will vary in their ability to control their own behaviour.

#The school community has a ‘Code of Behaviour’ to protect its rights and the
            rights of others.

# Learning is maximised by acceptable student behaviour.

# Managing student behaviour requires skill, a set of techniques and procedures that
all staff can develop and use effectively for the benefit of all students.

# Our school can promote positive approaches to students’ behaviour and
            influence academic performance.

#A student’s every action has a natural or logical consequence.

Preamble

The following policy sets out a number of areas including rights and responsibilities that need to be considered and understood by all of those involved in our school community.  This policy is to be the framework of a flexible, evolving plan to promote positive approaches to managing student behaviour.

           # In order for our school to operate effectively and serve the needs of all the
students in the school, we, the students, teachers and parents understand and accept
that certain kinds of behaviour are expected.

           # We all believe that each person should be treated fairly and that each person -
students, teachers and parents - has rights which will be recognised by all those in
             the school community.

           # In relation to these rights there are certain responsibilities that must be recognised
and accepted by those involved in the school community. By forfeiting
             responsibilities, rights are also forfeited.

           # It must be realised and accepted that certain logical consequences will occur
when these rights are infringed or these responsibilities are not accepted or neglected.

           # That this policy be reviewed as part of the ongoing internal review process with all
             stake holders represented.
